2022 Idaho Governor's Cup Scholarship Recipients

Brady Armstrong – Ridgevue High School – Attending Idaho State University

I was beyond thrilled when I discovered I was selected to receive this scholarship! I have always dreamed of going to college to become a mechanical engineer and now with this scholarship it is becoming a reality. Through other scholarships and working, I am hoping to make it out of school with little to no debt and the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship helps.

This scholarship takes a load off my parents and helps take away some of the worry of the financial situation. This gives me a head start in life and will be a blessing for my future family as well. I hope to have a positive impact on the world and provide hope to others. The Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship helps with that goal. I would like to thank all of those that are responsible for providing the money which funded this scholarship.

Delaney Beckman – Kamiah High School –Attending  University of Idaho

Thank you for the opportunity to receive the Governor’s Cup Scholarship. I am overwhelmed with joy in being able to accept this offer. Getting this scholarship means I will be able to focus more attention on my academics rather than trying to figure out how to pay for my education and the student debt I would be taking on. I am attending the University of Idaho in the fall of 2022 to study Political Science. My dream is to attend law school and hopefully one day I can direct my focus to Idaho’s politics. I am so grateful for this, thank you.

Alexis Blalock – Cossa Academy – Attending University of Idaho

I have a dream of being a high school English teacher. When I was thirteen, I became seriously behind in my schooling. In fact, I was at such a low grade for my age, I didn’t think I would ever graduate. After several years of putting my all into my education, I was finally able to get caught up to my ideal grade level. This setback proved a benefit, as my time struggling to reach grade level showed me how much people take education for granted. It taught me that education is a gift: something I want to share with the world.

Though I have the passion, it has previously been a challenge to make this dream a reality. Coming from a low-income family, college just didn’t seem possible. Because of your generous support of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship, I will now be able to attend college. Thanks to my scholarship, I will be able to help inspire students to reach for the stars through education. For that generosity and financial assistance, I am forever grateful. Through your kindness and financial assistance, the future of Idaho brightly gleams with prosperity and hope through education.

Jillian Cato – Canyon Ridge High School –Attending  College of Southern Idaho

I am so grateful for all those who donate to the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship and am deeply honored to have been selected to receive this prestigious award. I am also very relieved to have lightened the financial burden for myself and my family. I can now focus completely on achieving at the next level. I also feel inspired and look forward to the day that I can contribute to someone else’s future the way you have done for me.

I am excited to attend College of Southern Idaho in my home town of Twin Falls. Living at home while I complete my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts will allow me more time with my family and help me settle into the rhythm of higher education. Then I plan to attend Idaho State University to major in Geology. The geological history of Idaho and the Rocky Mountains have fascinated me for a long time. I am so grateful for the support you have given me to pursue my dreams. Thank you again for your generosity.

Olivia Crapo – Sugar-Salem High School –Attending  BYU-Idaho

Please accept my sincere gratitude and appreciation for making this scholarship possible.  I am honored to be selected as a recipient of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship.  I am beyond excited for the opportunities it will provide.  The funds granted through this scholarship will aid me in succeeding in my future academic goals by lightening my financial burdens and allowing me to focus more fully on learning.

Growing up on a family farm has taught me how to overcome adversity, set goals, and work hard to achieve them.  I plan to apply these attributes in the pursuit of my education.  My academic goals include earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology, followed by a Master of social work degree.  My hope in studying sociology is to gain knowledge and skills to better understand and empower individuals, families, groups, and communities to achieve their full potential.  Your generosity has inspired me to continue to find ways to give back to my community and strive to help others achieve their goals.

Brooklyn Davis – Rigby High School – Attending BYU-Idaho

I feel inadequate to express my gratitude to the board for choosing me as a recipient of an Idaho Governor’s Cup Academic Scholarship. This scholarship is huge.  My family has taught me the value and burden of being self-sufficient. I have been carrying this financial responsibility with great weight but also with optimism. I literally could not contain myself when I saw that burden being instantly relieved upon opening your letter. With this scholarship, I will now have the time to truly focus on my studies and further my education.

Life is all about bettering yourself to help others. My dream is to pursue a career in the medical field so I can help other people. This is how I want to better myself. Now that I have been blessed with this scholarship, it is a high priority to me to pay it forward both during college and after graduation. With my education, I want to be able to bless as many people as I can. I’m so grateful that I have been gifted the funds to make this dream possible. One of my goals for my bachelors’ degree was to graduate with no student debt. As college has gotten closer, and the costs of college have become a reality, I feared that it would not be possible for me to achieve the goal of being debt free. I am so grateful to the founders and donors of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship and everyone who works toward making the scholarship possible, as it is helping my dreams of pursuing a degree in the medical field become more attainable every day.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Grace Diffin – Centennial High School – Attending University of Idaho

I am writing this note to thank you for choosing me to receive the Governor’s Cup Scholarship. The funds provided from the scholarship will be so helpful as I start college at the University of Idaho. I plan to work while going to college to help pay for my expenses. My Dad passed away when I was in the 8th grade after fighting pancreatic cancer and my mom is raising me as a single parent. I have a sister also attending the University of Idaho, and with two children in college, my mom will only be able to provide limited help with my tuition. With the money received from the Governor’s Cup Scholarship, I will be able to reduce the amount I will have to raise myself to pay for my expenses. This will allow me to be able to focus on my classes and reduce the amount I will have to work. This is such an amazing help that will provide me with such relief as I start my first year in college and I will be forever grateful. I plan to study secondary education while at the University of Idaho and hope to teach high school English when I graduate. I hope to make a difference in the lives of many students while a teacher and follow in my Dad’s footsteps and will try to make him proud. I am so thankful for the funds from the scholarship and my goal will be to put the funds to good use and show the Committee that I was a good choice for the Governor’s Cup Scholarship.

Mya Gackstetter – Post Falls High School – Attending University of Idaho

After learning I was a recipient for the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship, I immediately felt immense gratitude. This award is more than a dollar amount. It is an opportunity that will allow me to continue my education and fulfill the goals I have for my future. I feel very fortunate to live in Idaho, where the generosity of Idahoans is displayed through this scholarship. It is my goal to make a successful career for myself, so that I can reciprocate similar actions of generosity in the upcoming years.

With the help of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship, I will be attending University of Idaho, majoring in Nutritional Sciences with a Pre-Dental focus. I am excited to study a science that corresponds with oral healthcare, and eventually becoming a general dentist. I look forward to continuing to show my appreciation to this award over the next years by displaying my hard work and dedication towards my education and community.

Mykala Gallegos – Coeur d’Alene High School –Attending  University of Idaho

The Governor’s Cup Academic Scholarship makes it possible for me to reach my dreams. I come from a household that is run by a hard working, single mother who is trying to support two full-time college students. Achieving my dream of earning a Bachelor’s of Science and Nursing is something that I’ve always believed I can do; however, the financial burden that comes with attending a university is something that I’ve been nervous about. This financial aid will give me the support I need to achieve my goals. Ultimately, the Governor’s Cup Academic Scholarship is not only helping me, a single student achieve her lifelong dream, but it is also helping save the lives of hundreds of patients that I will serve throughout my career as a nurse. In the end, this scholarship is an amazing opportunity that I am pleased to be a part of.

Isabella Gilmore – Garden Valley High School -Attending  University of Idaho

Thank you so much to each and every person involved in the awarding of this scholarship. Thank you for your time and consideration. Any scholarships received will allow me to accomplish all that I hope to. My family is a blended, broken, yet beautiful bunch. We have had to overcome many things and there have always been financial struggles. I am the last of eight children and these hardships have taught me the true meaning of hard work and perseverance. I would not trade them for anything, but I need financial assistance to accomplish my goals. I can take this scholarship and go incredibly far with it. I do not take things for granted in life; I cherish them with every fiber of my being. I know that life is a gift and that it should not be taken for granted. I want to spend the rest of my life helping others learn this lesson.

I plan to attend the University of Idaho in the fall of 2022, and I am going to become a recreational therapist. I will be able to help those who are struggling mentally or physically find their passions and truly live their lives. I will be double majoring in recreation and psychology. Many of my general education classes are completed, so I will begin work on my degree right away. I have always wanted to help people and I started learning about recreational therapy. This career will allow me to work in numerous locations; I am particularly interested in working at rehabilitation centers. I plan to help others learn that their struggles do not prevent them from truly living life.

Thank you for everything that you do for the students of our wonderful state, Idaho.

Sheylaci Gunnell – North Fremont Jr/Sr High School – Attending Idaho State University

Receiving the letter of congratulations for winning the Governor’s Cup Scholarship flooded me with an immense sense of gratitude and achievement. Thank you for approaching my essay with consideration. Before accepting this scholarship, my future of pursuing higher education seemed to be dimming because the dream to fulfill my highest aspirations, surrendered to the costs. With the Governor's Cup Scholarship, my desires and hopes will be satisfied. Worries are vanishing and the wish for my three younger siblings to attend college will be manifested. Thank you once again for this significant achievement. Your donations and publication do not go unnoticed.

Lexi Johns – Borah Senior High School –Attending  Boise State University

Receiving the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship has been the perfect end to my senior year of high school. I was so eager to know whether or not I was a recipient that I marked the day in my calendar. When I received a letter in the mail I was jumping with excitement in my kitchen next to my mom. I've had times when I've doubted my academic abilities in comparison to my peers, but receiving this scholarship has solidified my success. It's a tangible congratulations for the last three years of hard work. And I'm so incredibly grateful.

I've never been more excited to start a new year of education. A financial burden has been significantly lifted off my shoulders and I feel as if I'll be able to study with ease. Knowing that I earned the gift of education and that I can enjoy it rather than stress feels amazing. I can take the burden of paying for college off my parents and reasonably onto myself now. That's all I hoped for. I can confidently say I cannot wait to begin studying Film and Creative Writing at BSU.

Anne Jorgensen – Nez Perce School –Attending Boise State University

I am incredibly honored to have been selected as a recipient of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship. Thank you so much for your generosity, as this scholarship will help me pursue my educational and career goals. The Governor’s Cup Scholarship has provided my family and me with much-needed financial assistance so that I may attend Boise State University and work towards a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy. It will also allow me to focus more on studying than working my way through college.

Receiving the Governor’s Cup Scholarship will aid me in paying for college and reaching my eventual goal of becoming an accountant. I want to make a difference in my community through my work, and this scholarship allows me to start making a difference by affording the education to do that.

Marceline Kinja – Timberline High School-Boise – Attending Boise State University

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for this amazing gift you have given me. I am beyond grateful for the scholarship and cannot thank you enough. As you read in my essay, I am from a refugee background, and affording college often seems like a nightmare. But I know through this renewable scholarship, I will have less worries on my shoulders. I truly appreciate this award, be blessed and may you guys continue gifting more individuals like me.

After graduating, I plan on attending Boise State University for my first 4 years in order to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree. I plan on majoring in Nursing, and then transfer to a different school for two years into the Nurse Practitioner Program and hopefully become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I know college isn't for everyone, and it has many challenges along the way, but I strongly believe the crown at the end of the race is the most joyous experience. I plan to work hard each year and renew this scholarship for all my 4 years so tuition cannot be a reason why I end up quitting. But overall, thank you so much for offering this scholarship to an individual like me. I am truly grateful!

Adyson Perkes – Richfield School - Attending University of Idaho

I am very thankful and honored to be receiving this amazing scholarship. Receiving the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship will help in my future endeavors immensely. I will be attending the University of Idaho in the fall, and this scholarship will allow me to focus more on my education and less on finding funding for my education. Receiving this scholarship is a huge weight lifted off both mine and my family’s shoulders, as we will know that much of my schooling will be paid for. As I continue to pursue a career in the veterinary field, I am excited to see where my goals and hard work will take me. I am so thankful to be receiving this scholarship and grateful that my hard work has paid off.

Audrey Richmond – Capital Senior High School – Attending Boise State University

I am humbled and incredibly grateful to the Governor’s Cup Scholarship program for honoring me with this extremely generous scholarship. Thank you so much!

I can’t wait to show all of the Idaho Governor’s Cup sponsors, donors, Board of Directors, and staff what I am able to accomplish because of their generosity and faith in me. Because of this amazing scholarship, I can attend Boise State University as an Honors College student double majoring in accounting and finance.

While studying at BSU, I will take advantage of so many amazing opportunities on and off campus. I can put my new business knowledge to use by being a part of several student organizations that allow me to learn from and network with professionals in the business community. I will also volunteer to prepare taxes for low income and older Idahoans as part of the IRS’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. After graduation, I plan on attending BSU’s Master in Accountancy program and obtaining my CPA license and I can continue to serve in VITA as well.

Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future! You have made so many of my dreams possible and my family and I cannot thank you enough!

Theodore Shultz – Coeur d’Alene High School - Attending University of Idaho

I am honored and privileged to be chosen as a recipient of the Idaho Governor's Cup Scholarship. This scholarship will kickstart my plans for higher education where I plan on    majoring in medical science at the University of Idaho and then attending medical school. The road ahead holds a large financial burden over my head so I am incredibly grateful to have the economic support from this scholarship.

Having lived in Idaho most of my life I appreciate the beauty of our state; the beauty in both the land and the quality of its people. After medical school I plan on pursuing a residency in pediatric otolaryngology or family medicine and then returning to Idaho to practice medicine. These are lofty dreams but this scholarship makes it more of a reality.

Sarah Senner – Nampa Christian High School – Attending Idaho State University

My name is Sarah Senner and I am a recent recipient of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship in 2022. I am deeply grateful for your willingness to support me through giving and selecting me to receive this scholarship. Finances have been a struggle in my family and my parents will be unable to help with finances for college. This scholarship will help fill in that gap and allow me to pursue my dreams and goals of attending college. Starting Fall of 2022, I will be attending Idaho State University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre. I am very excited to be entering into this new stage of my life. Entering into the world of theatre has been a dream of mine since I was five years old, and now because of faithful giving, as through this scholarship, I will be able to fulfill that dream. Thank you once again for your willingness to give and select me to receive this scholarship.

Ellee Shifflett – Clark County Jr/Sr High School –Attending  Idaho State University

I am so honored to have been selected as one of the recipients of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship. I plan to attend Idaho State University with goals to become an occupational therapist. By receiving this scholarship I will be able to achieve my goals. I would like to thank you for your very generous donation. Your scholarship has made a major impact on my life and I greatly appreciate it. This scholarship has made it possible for me to attend college! Thank you for your generosity!

Arantza Teres-Martinez – Renaissance High School – Attending College of Idaho

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship board for choosing me as one of the recipients of the scholarship, as well as to the donors who made it possible. Thank you so much for the opportunity that winning this award has granted me. With this award, I am now able to attend College of Idaho and stay in the dormitories to experience a full and well-rounded college experience. The financial help it has provided will also let me save more money towards my graduate degree in the future - I plan on pursuing either psychiatry, law or anthropological archaeology - and help my family put aside money for my little sister’s college degree in a few years. As a child of immigrant parents, I always knew – even from the second grade – that paying for college would be tight, and I am so overjoyed to live in a state that cares so much about higher education that it organizes events such as these to raise money for the dream and privilege of higher education, as well as being part of the Idahoan community that proves its generosity and merit with every donation and every cycle of the Governor’s Cup award. I promise I will strive to re-earn this award every day in college and beyond. Thank you, truly!

Grace Tiegs – Nez Perce School –Attending Lewis-Clark State College

I cannot express how thankful I am for your support! Your investment in the Governor’s Cup Scholarship will allow me to pursue my goals with less personal financial burden on me and my family. As the oldest of seven siblings, college has not always seemed financially feasible, as I knew that I would have to take on the responsibility for the cost. I will truly be able to put my efforts into my academics and not worry about how I am paying for it.

This fall, I will attend Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. There, I plan to major in Bioinformatics, a combination of Biology and Computer Science. Through this program, I hope to help develop my skills in math, science, and engineering to prepare me for a career in the field. At LC State, I will also be able to continue my passion for running as a member of the cross country and track teams. I am extremely excited for the next four years of my journey and I am so grateful for the investment you’ve made in my education!

William Cylas Wareham – Genesee School –Attending  College of Southern Idaho

I am humbled and honored to be a recipient of the Governor’s Cup Scholarship. My goal is to complete college debt free and receiving this scholarship allows me to get one step closer to achieving this goal. Initially I had planned on earning a basketball scholarship, but a football injury during my senior year ended my high school basketball career. This was devastating and left me scrambling to pay for college. My high school academics have also been important to me and I have worked hard to be a straight “A” student.

My college goals include attending College of Southern Idaho for 2 years working on a Business Associate Degree. Then I plan to finish my bachelor’s degree majoring in Broadcasting Journalism. After college I hope to be a sports analyst and run my own business on the side. Hard work pays off! Thank you for this scholarship and opportunity to represent Idaho!

Brylee Williams – Weiser High School -Attending  University of Idaho

I am honored to have received the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship and will make sure to put these funds to good use. Living in Idaho for the entirety of my life, I am excited to see what the next four years have in store. I have always believed that with hard work comes great results; however, nothing in life is a guarantee, and I am genuinely thankful to have received this scholarship.

I will put these funds towards financing my education, covering a good chunk of my tuition and living costs. I will be attending the University of Idaho this fall — I will be studying Business and Trading, International Relations, and Public Policy. I plan to go to grad school and study law after completing my undergraduate degrees. After graduation, I want to play a vital role in the Idaho economy, practicing corporate law in Boise. My long-term goal is to work in public policy — so who knows, maybe it will be my name at the bottom of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship someday.

I was born and raised in Idaho, and hope to raise my family in this great state for many years to come.  Thanks again for everything; I won't let you down!

Elijah Zeller – Home School – Attending College of Western Idaho

Thank you for granting me the privilege to pursue higher education. This is an investment in my future that will make a lasting impact not only in my life, but also in the lives of those that I am able to touch. The words “thank you” are wholly inadequate to convey the depth of my gratitude. Your generosity validates my vision that one day I will change the world for the better with my desire to serve others. You have supported me in the next steps toward my goal of starting a nonprofit business and providing humanitarian aid, giving me an opportunity to assist those in need and help the next generation have a chance to pursue their aspirations as well. Thank you again for making an investment in me that you will not regret.

Amanda Uhlenkott – Midvale School –Attending Lewis-Clark State College

I am writing this letter to sincerely thank you for your generosity. I am honored to have been selected as the recipient of the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship.

I have wanted a career where I could be impacting children in a positive way. Although there are many careers that fall under that description, and no matter what careers I decided to explore, nothing has sounded more fulfilling to me than teaching. Right now, my biggest goal in life is to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I have already been blessed with many opportunities to gain a ton of knowledge and experiences regarding teaching. And because of this, I am confident that a career in teaching is right for me. I cannot wait to transfer everything I have learned already, and everything I still have to learn through attending college, into a classroom someday.

Receiving this scholarship motivates me to maintain my GPA and complete my degree. It also takes away some of the stress I was facing regarding the financial burdens attending college would have on me and my family. I now feel more prepared to fully focus on my academics and my future career. I look forward to being able to help children grow and learn new things, and also give back to the community once I begin my career teaching. I thank you for your confidence and willingness to help me achieve my goals.

Marissa Clawson – West Side Senior High School –Attending  Idaho State University

I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for the ability to obtain this scholarship! These last few months have been so stressful as I have been trying to find several jobs and have been worrying about paying for tuition and other expenses. This scholarship has been able to give me the peace of mind and clarity that I needed. This money will be put to good use. I will use it to obtain my degree and help people in the area of families. Even though my plans have changed, one thing that is consistent is my desire to help people and families feel better about themselves and that is exactly what I want to do. This scholarship will help me immensely to achieve that goal. Thank you so much!

Emily Dau – Highland High School-Craigmont –Attending  Lewis-Clark State College

I am beyond thankful to be receiving this scholarship. Pursuing my education has been a goal of mine for some time, and this scholarship will help me accomplish it. I come from a middle-class family, so receiving financial aid and income-based scholarships does not happen often. However, my parents do not make enough to fully support me through college, so I am financially independent. This scholarship will help me further my education and allow me to attend school. I am tremendously appreciative of this opportunity, and I cannot wait to further my education.

I am attending Lewis-Clark State College in order to complete their nursing program. I have had goals of working in the medical field since I was young. I am beyond excited to be able to live out my dreams and start my life as a nurse. I have been also researching ways to further my career and becoming a Physician Assistant is something that I have been interested in. After finishing my nursing degree at LCSC, I may transfer to Boise State University or the University of Idaho where this degree is attainable.  I am so grateful to be receiving this scholarship and I know it will help me in my education. Thank you to those who award and contribute to this scholarship. They help so many people accomplish life goals and create so many opportunities.

Ashlee Empey – Thunder Ridge High School – Attending College of Eastern Idaho

I am Ashlee Empey, one of the recipients of the Governor’s Cup Career-Technical Education Scholarship. I was sitting at my kitchen table eating dinner with my family right before my high school graduation ceremony when I looked down at my phone to see an email titled “Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship.” I opened the email to find out that I had received this amazing scholarship. I immediately lit up in excitement as I shared the news with my family.

My plan is to complete the Medical Assisting Program at the College of Eastern Idaho. With the help of this generous scholarship, I will be able to maximize my college experience through service, volunteer opportunities, and internships, while not having to work additional hours at my job. It will ease the financial burden on my family as well. Your support will make an extraordinary difference in my education and my future career goals. I appreciate it so much and want to thank everyone who made it possible for me.

Krystal Erickson – Rigby High School – Attending College of Eastern Idaho

I want to say thank you so much! By receiving the Governor's Cup Scholarship, I will be able to worry less about money and focus more on my education. With this scholarship I will be able to focus more on putting my best foot forward. I will work hard towards my education and prepare myself for future opportunities. This scholarship will provide funding to help me work my way through my educational goals. I am very grateful and appreciative for this scholarship and feel blessed beyond words! Continuing my education is a great accomplishment. I strive to be a great friend, coworker, and peer. I know this scholarship will help me with that goal.

Owen Fujii – Post Falls High School – Attending Idaho State University

I am truly honored to have been awarded this scholarship. This scholarship has made going to college much easier than it would have been otherwise. The Governor’s Cup Scholarship covers a large portion of my tuition. This in combination with my other scholarships, means that I do not have to worry nearly as much about the financial aspect of college. I am beyond grateful for this because I can now focus my full attention to maximizing my education. This scholarship also acts as a tangible reward for all my hard work in school. I have sacrificed time that I could have been working or spending time with friends to succeed in school. To many people this seemed odd as they believed that there was little value in trying to push the envelope with one’s education, yet this scholarship proves to me that all that time was very well spent.

I am super excited to start my program at ISU because the content of the program seems amazing. Through my experience at KTEC, I found that I truly excel in applied learning classes. Furthermore, I love electronics and robots yet do not yet have the knowledge to fully utilize them. Through my program I will be able to gain that knowledge that I lack and seek  and then I can fully employ myself as a robotics engineer.

Wade Goeckner – Prairie Jr/Sr High School –Attending  Lewis-Clark State College

Thank you so much for your generosity, this scholarship means so much to me. This will help me cover the costs of my books and living costs. The Idaho governor's cup scholarship will help me achieve my academic dreams of becoming a diesel mechanic. This career will provide me with a great background and will always open the door for a good career anywhere my life takes me. Diesel engines play a very important role in the everyday life of Americans and Idahoans. I plan to stay in Idaho where I was born and continue to support my state and my community. After I finish my college career I would love to come back to the camas prairie and continue farming just like my family has done for generations. I would like to eventually continue supporting the community the same way it has supported me for the last 18 years. It is so great to know that there are people that care this much about the education of future generations. Thank you again for all that you do and for helping me pursue my dreams.

Payton Goff – Kimberly High School – Attending College of Southern Idaho

Thank you for your consideration and scholarship acceptance. I was thrilled to learn of my selection for this honor, and am deeply appreciative for your support. This will immensely help my journey as a first generation college student. I am enrolled and completed my first year in the dental hygiene program at the College of Southern Idaho. I would not be able to do this without the support of my family and the generosity of others. This scholarship will help cover expenses and lighten my financial burden as I work hard to complete my degree.

Alexandre Henderson – Kuna High School – Attending Idaho State University

Thank you for awarding me this scholarship. I am eternally grateful for your generous offer. This award will help me achieve my goals of becoming a software engineer and helping the world. This award will help me leave my footprint on the world and become the society member that I want to be. I cannot wait to start my new journey in this life and you have greatly affected my life in the most beneficial way possible. Thank you again for helping me make my dreams come true.

Luke Hull – Wallace Jr/Sr High School - Attending University of Idaho

Thank you to the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship for the impact that it will make on my life. This scholarship will help me obtain my degree in registered nursing which will allow me to come back to my hometown and operate a home health agency. While working in the home health field I will have the ability to give back to the large elderly population and also our community as a whole. I’m very excited for the great opportunities that will come from receiving this amazing scholarship.

Jacob Krick – Genesee School –Attending College of Southern Idaho

Thank you so much for selecting me for the Idaho Governor’s Cup Career-Technical Education Scholarship. I will start college this fall at the College of Southern Idaho, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in agriculture. While at the College of Southern Idaho, I will learn a lot about production agriculture, markets and the business of operating a successful farm in Idaho. This has been my career goal for many years, as my dad is a farmer, and I have enjoyed working and learning from him for the past several years. I have learned a lot of skills from him, but there are still a lot of things that I feel I need to learn, in order to be a successful farmer.

With this scholarship, it will greatly reduce my need for a student loan and hopefully can start my farming career without student debt. That is very crucial because each year, a farmer has a lot of expenses for seed, fertilizer, diesel, and equipment repairs. Decreasing my student loan debt will increase my odds of being a successful Idaho farmer in the future. This scholarship will be huge in helping me achieve my career goal, and I can’t thank you enough for selecting me for the Idaho Governor’s Cup Career-Technical Education Scholarship.

Paul Massaad – Mountain View High School – Boise State University

I would like to start off by saying thank you for the opportunity to accept this scholarship. I am beyond blessed to be chosen for this scholarship. The opportunities this will open me up to will is amazing. It will allow me to be less worried about working and allow me to focus on my studies. I will be pursuing Pre-Dentistry at Boise State University. This path has been a dream of mine since my freshman year of high school. Yes, you heard that right, I was 14 years old and already had a plan for what I wanted to do with my life. You can probably tell I am not just a normal teenager. I am mature, quirky, and truly a weird kid. I enjoy football, but also enjoy bowling. I enjoy listening to music, but I also enjoy playing my trumpet. I enjoy leading, but I also enjoy being taught. These are things most kids can’t say they enjoy. I pride myself on my ability to be well-rounded and to push myself. I believe applying for this scholarship was meant to be for me. It will open me up to all the experiences of the world, with less stress. It will allow me to enter this new community comfortably and with less worry. Along with that, it will allow me to one day come back to Meridian and open my own practice. Hey, who knows, maybe I will be your Dentist one day!  I truly want to thank you for this amazing scholarship and opportunity to represent my state.

Charles Orford – Kootenai Jr/Sr High School – Lewis-Clark State College

Thank you so much for granting me this generous scholarship.  I struggled with the abrupt change to online schooling during the pandemic.  I lost motivation and the focus on my goal to further my education.  When I transferred to Kootenai High School I was given the opportunity to get a well-rounded educational experience.  I am grateful that I was able to be engaged with my teachers, school staff, coaches, and classmates to focus on my education, sports, and being able to give back to the community.  I have worked my hardest to be on the honor roll at KHS and was invited to join the National Honor Society.

I am looking forward to attending LCSC in their welding program in the fall and expanding my knowledge in this field. This money will help pay for the cost of my tuition while attending LCSC. I still will be working to pay off my student loans but this scholarship will help take out a large sum of my loans.

Kiera Patterson – Gooding High School – College of Southern Idaho

I would like to thank the Governor’s Cup for this scholarship. I am attending CSI to become a Registered Technologist in Radiology. My future plans are to further my education in ultrasound after completing the Rad Tech program. This scholarship will help me to acquire all the books, scrubs, and lab fees. This will also help me pay for the ARRT Credentialing Examination along with background checks. By limiting the financial stresses of college, I can focus my time more on my family and studies. Thank you again for choosing me as the recipient of this scholarship.

Dylan Pinson – Ridgevue High School – Idaho State University

I have recently been selected as a recipient for the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship for this year. I am honored to receive the award and I just wanted to take the time to thank you for choosing me as a recipient. This scholarship will be able to cover most of my dorm expenses for the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year. I will be able to live on campus and enjoy the college experience while also being able to focus more time into my studies rather than work. Cutting back on work will allow me to get better grades and therefore complete my program on time. My parents and family will also benefit because they won’t feel obligated to help me with college and it will help me move away from home more affordably. Thanks again for selecting me as a recipient and I wish you all well.

Aliah Rehder – Prairie Jr/Sr High School – Boise State University

I recently graduated from Prairie High School. I graduated salutatorian of my class, ranked 2nd with a 3.982 GPA. In a few months, I plan to attend Boise State University, majoring in pre-dental hygiene pre-health profession pathway. This will help me complete my prerequisite classes to get into a dental hygiene program. I wanted to thank you for your support through the Governor's Cup Scholarship. This scholarship will help me pay for my college education as I pursue my passion working in the dental field.

Since I was a little girl I have always loved visiting the dentist, which led to having a passion for dentistry. The Governor's Cup Scholarship will help me achieve my goals from a young age by helping pay for schooling, textbooks, and dental tools. I am honored to have received this scholarship. I appreciate all of the support helping guide my post-secondary education. Thank you!
